We loved the park in general. So many trails & places to explore. The bison & longhorn were amazing & watching a feeding was an experience to not be missed. Saw javelina at the wildlife viewing are-!!
-1 star for the lack of sewer hookups/bathroom condition. We don’t mind not having sewer hookups if the bathrooms are nice, but the women’s room always smelled & was dirty/not in good condition. Mens wasn’t as bad, but still not great. They said they were working to improve the restrooms, so I hope they can cause this park is awesome otherwise.
Nice, clean campground overlooking the lake from a distance. Chose to do a first- come, first serve arrival and found plenty. There are 11 FCFS sites available. Clean shower and bathroom, and pleasant night sky.
The park was small but it did deliver for sunsets. There were a few trails. Water and power at the sites and they had covered picnic areas. 14 miles north of Carlsbad, NM. Had only 4 full hookup sites and 2 of those were for the host. Very open to the elements. Wind gust can get hard.
Never saw a ranger or a host the entire week I was there. I would have liked a more private front door to the women's room. The showers had hot water, but the curtains were in really bad shape with lots of tears and holes. They did not …
Enjoyed our campground experience a lot! The bathrooms were really clean and the showers were hot. Our site (19) was nice and level. The picnic shelter with the rock wall was spacious, we parked our bikes under and locked them to the table. …
Had site 17. Level with full Verizon signal and open for satellite dish. Bathrooms are clean and larger than most. Great State Park to stop and rest. It's very quiet in the month of March. There were high winds while we were there this time …
The lake itself is quite nice, as are the camp grounds. The camp site had power, water and a nice covered table. The view of the water was also great from the site. The reason for the low score lies in the condition of the lake up close and …
Basic drive up camping or rv with hookups and a view of the lake/dam. Wear shoes as there were alot of sun scorpions and beware the snakes hiding from the sun. Other then that we had t19 and it was a great lake view and the stars were bright.
Close to carlsbad and a beautiful national forest and an amazing nation park (Carlsbad caverns), the lake is a beautiful touch, then there are a few trails that lead to plaques, there is an owl and her young there right now! Beautiful place tucked in there. A nice lil gem.
Picturesque setting on the lake. Many sites have a great view of the water. All come with sun shelters. There are several hiking trails that depart from the campground. Evening hikes in spring are great after the sun sets. Very clean bathhouse. About 20 minutes to downtown Carlsbad.
